Summary

China Brush helped me last longer during sex when I had an authentic version of it a few years ago. To my knowledge, it has now been discontinued by most major online sex stores.

Over the years, I’ve seen it pop up from time to time on different websites, but none consistently stock it. At the time of writing this latest update, Walmart is selling it online, which I find kind of surprising. How long they stock it for remains to be seen.

I recommend being careful if you buy it online as there have been many reports of fake versions, which makes safety a potential issue.

Review

China Brush, also known by the tongue-twister name of Suifan’s Kwang Tze Solution, is an unusual desensitizing product to help men delay ejaculation.

The main appeal is that it contains natural ingredients, instead of the usual pharmaceutical anesthetics like Lidocaine or Benzocaine.

The good news is that it helped me last much longer during sex – up to 10 minutes. The bad news is that despite the big improvement in time, I discovered two major problems with it which I’ll be discussing later in this China Brush review.

What I was also very interested in was the ingredients; there’s always something that feels mysterious about Chinese medicine and herbs – to me at least.

So I wanted to know exactly how and why China Brush works. To find out, I dug up some information about the eight main ingredients to find out exactly what I was putting on my most delicate parts.

I’ll share these findings briefly below and then discuss in more detail what I found good and bad about China Brush. If you’re not interested in my obsessive-compulsive dissection of the ingredients, scroll down a bit to find out more about how it works.

China Brush Ingredients

Please note that I didn’t waltz into a Chinese herbal remedy shop with a beaming smile and ask for a breakdown of these ingredients. This is simply a summary of some basic online research.

1. Fructus Cindii

This is a dried fruit of the Cnidium plant. It’s used in Chinese medicine to help men with impotence. It has nothing to do with holding back ejaculation as far as I can tell.

2. Cortex Cinnamomi – Cinnamon bark

Cortex Cinnamomi is listed on the World Health Organisation website, described as being used according to ‘folklore’ to treat impotence. But they also add the caveat that there’s no clinical data to support this or any other purported benefit.

According to Chinese medicine websites, it’s a potent aid for those who have a low sex drive and helps build strong internal and physical sexual energy. So again, nothing about delaying ejaculation and more about being some kind of natural Viagra.

3. Flos Caryophylli – also known as Ding Xiang and Clove

Flos caryophylli is the dried flower of the Clove tree. In one experiment involving rats, it was found to significantly increase sexual libido. It’s also apparently used to numb tooth pain by rubbing it in. Perhaps the creators of China Brush have decided that it would also numb other body parts.

4. Rhizoma Alpiniae – a kind of ginger

This root is very similar to the type of ginger used in cooking. A study on rats in 2006 found that it worked as an aphrodisiac. But I’m not a four-legged furry animal, and I’ve never noticed I feel horny after eating a ginger heavy Thai Curry either.

5. Rhizoma Atractylodis – also known as Cāng zhú

Cāng zhú is a dried Rhizome which again doesn’t appear to have any obvious connection to premature ejaculation. It’s widely used in Chinese medicine, but not apparently for any sexual reasons.

It’s used to improve fatigue and night vision though. Perhaps the creators of Kwang Tze Solution were being, well, creative.

6. Pericarpium Zanthoxyli – known as Prickyl ash Peel or Chinese Pepper

Chinese Pepper is the first China Brush ingredient that does have an anesthetic property. Native North American Indians used it as a numbing agent for toothache. So perhaps it could also help to reduce the sensitivity of the penis, and thus delay ejaculation.

7. Radix Angelicae Dahuricae – also known as Bai Zhi or Angelica

This root is also definitely known in Chinese medicine as being a pain reliever, among other uses. So there are at least two, and possibly three, China Brush ingredients that are known pain relievers. And pain relievers, if they actually work by applying directly to the skin, could help numb the penis during sex.

8. Radix Ginseng – Ren Shen

Radix Ginseng is the dried root of the Panax Ginseng herb. It’s widely used in Chinese medicine to promote good Qi – the internal energy. Research studies suggest it can help with erection problems and libido.

9. Other ingredients

Water is also used in China Brush solution to create the liquid it comes in. I’ve also read reports that it can contain Aloe and Gallstone, but I don’t know where this information is being found. As far as I know, I’ve listed all the ingredients that are included in the official Kwang Tze Solution.

Hitting the problem from different angles

On the surface, these nine ingredients appear to stand up to scrutiny: there are ingredients that work as anesthetics, and so should reduce sensitivity; others that boost libido; and a few which help with erection strength. There are even energy boosters and aphrodisiacs thrown in for good measure.

It appears to me then that China Brush was designed to work from several different angles. And it seems that they’ve found a way to combine all nine herbs and roots to good effect.

Or have they?

Problems and side effects

China Brush would appear to have the potential to help some men delay ejaculation, especially if your problem is caused mainly by physical sensitivity. 10 minutes extra? You can’t deny that that’s a huge improvement.

However, there are a couple of issues that bothered me when I used it:

  • You have to apply it 30-60 minutes before having sex. That means you have to plan sex in advance every time.
  • If you apply too much it can sting or produce a rash. I didn’t get a rash, but did feel a mild burning. And even though it disappeared after a while, it was still unpleasant. I experimented with different amounts over a few days just to be sure, and it always caused a sensation I found difficult to ignore.

I struggle to recommend a product that you need to apply so far in advance of sex and that gives a more noticeable burning sensation than basic lidocaine sprays.

Fake or authentic, and where to buy?

It seems that Suifan’s Kwang Tze Solution is as difficult to find as it is to pronounce, as many online sex shops have discontinued it.

There are also many reports of fake China Brush being sold. There are also various different theories as to which color label, type of application stick, packaging, and bottle are genuine, and which are fake.

Some readers have left comments describing the difference between the authentic and fake, but often referring to a 2009 eBay description. However, that was more than a decade ago and it makes sense that the manufacturer has changed the label and packaging since then.

A new Chinese herbal retailer

After a couple of readers said they got it from Rootandspring.com, I wrote to ask about the version they are selling, and if it’s authentic.

I got a reply from Cindy, who agreed for me to publish her reply:

We obtain our inventory of Suifan’s Kwang Tze Solution directly from their sole distributor in the U.S. Our distributor is the only confirmed distributor in the U.S. and has a longstanding record with Suifan’s Medicine: they have provided to reputable companies over ten years before and after the rebrand of the product, and we’ve seen verification of the exclusive relationship they have with the manufacturer. For these reasons we have no reason to doubt its authenticity.
There seems to be a discrepancy of information on the web. I do think its worthwhile to clear it up. Yes, they’ve tweaked the formula a few years ago, it is now lighter in color and they’ve had a packaging rebrand, but it all still has the same ingredients and comes from the same manufacturer (Suifan’s Medicine) in Hong Kong. It may be worthwhile for you to review the current Suifan’s Kwang Tze formula on your website since the old one has been discontinued and no longer in existence, to see if you agree with the assessment above. I think sometimes, because the look and formula has changed over the last few years, a few customers assume it is fake. This is not the case, the product is not fake, just updated, and I have confirmed this directly.

Since then, I’ve bought their version, and also one from lovehoney.co.uk to see how they compare. In the photo below you can see both versions. The yellow label is from Root And Spring, and the blue label is from Love Honey.

Update about where it’s sold

Every couple of years, I update this article (I first wrote it a very long time ago) with some current information about where it’s sold.

In May 2022, I found versions of it on these sites:

  3. Hi,
    I am very, very sensitive. Maximum 3 penetrations (3 seconds).
    do you think that china brush Will work for me? Otherwise, there are other solutions?
    I already tried stud100 and promescent and it didn’t work.( eventually if i was experimenting lot of dosage and duration)

      To be honest, it’s impossible to predict if it will work for you or not. The only way to find out is to try it. Stud100 and Promescent are based on similar chemicals, so perhaps something different like China Brush will help. But I can’t promise it will. Have you tried the natural techniques as well?

  5. Like you I always want to know all about the ingredients in everything, so this has been very useful, and the comments are entertaining too. Clove, by the way, is definitely a numbing agent. The leaflet instructions say in English only this: “Apply a thin layer only (external use). 18-20 applications per bottle.)” Nothing about where to apply it, nor does it say anything about leaving it for half an hour, or washing it off before the action starts. One should wait at least half an hour, is this right? My boyfriend didn’t believe me when I told him he has to wait a while. He actually doesn’t have any problems with premature ejaculation but insisted on trying it out as he likes trying new things, so I bought it from a Chinese herbal shop called Hong Ning, 15 Little Newport Street London WC2, if any English readers want to know where to get it. It costs 15 pounds.

      To be honest, it seems practically impossible to get definitive advice on using delay products. One source, instruction leaflet, website or individual guy often have differing opinions.
      My understanding is that you have to wait some time with china brush – 30 to 60 minutes. But, because you don’t know if he might react to it, I always suggest erring on the side of caution and washing it off after 5 to 10 mins first time just to be safe. Then you can try longer the next time.
      You are supposed to apply it to the penis head, especially the area around the frenulum as far as I understand it.

      • Hi, I am an old user of this type of products.. My opinion, I can let here my experience because I have many years using this product, For me, is the best product and I am 100% agree with Ethan:

        -This product is for people planning sex in advance becuase effect is almost 30 mins after apply the product.. is the only disadvantage for the product..

        The quantity to apply depends how long wants the effect, you have try several times until you find how much you are comfortable ( or your guy in this case).

        Yes, a little strange sensation when apply but it disapper soon, and if you wash after 30 mins really you are ready for a very good sex time!

        When I have no advance plan .. I use Tatai spray it is fast (around 5 mins) and really works well ( not as well as China Brush)

    • I would start with washing it off after about 10 minutes the first time just to be sure it’s not going to cause any irritation. Then see if it’s had any effect. Maybe leave it on longer the next time.

      Thanks for your comment. My suggestions with any desensitizing spray would be to be careful when you first use it. So for example, apply a small amount the first time and wash it off after 5 minutes. Then you can wait to see if your skin reacts to it badly or not. If everything is ok, the next time you can apply the right amount and leave it on for longer.
      But what do the instructions say in the bottle you bought?

  17. Hi Ethan, I applied all over the penis more than what it was necessary . I washed it twice before sex and she experienced a real pain afterwards which lasted a week or so. Now the problem is she doesn’t get her period. Wonder if that is related?! Thank you

      Sorry to hear that you had problems with China Brush. My advice would be for her to get checked out by a doctor. I imagine there’s another explanation and it’s just coincidence. But a doctor is the best person to advise on that.

  18. i have been using this product for ages. the first i used it, i had applied too much and did not climax we had to stop after 2hours and my penis was so numb and could not feel the head. but after learning how to apply it, it has done wonders for me i have been lasting for more than 1hr30 and if i want to go further i just i apply more and would even go to 3hours

  20. 1st i dont want to sound like im the one that used this product for premature ejaculation. The truth is i had a chance with a stripper and wanted to blow her mind wide open. I bought the stuff at a local sex shop put it on at a gas station and im telling you it burnt like hell. Good thing i didnt try while driving. So i let it sit for as much as i could bare then washed it off. ((Lol)) washed it off in the sink. I felt so dirty lol. Anyway got my girl and rocked her world and mine.   29. Thanks for this Ethan. I’ve looked up the ingredients in the past and tried to put them together; thanks for your input. Your analysis makes more sense than mine.
    I’ve noticed that the newer packages don’t list Korean Ginseng anymore. I’ve been using Kwang Tze for over 4 years now and I swear by it. For me, it’s THE product and I use it regularly and rather liberally. Just never forget to shower it off just before!!! (That’s another downside) If not, your mate will KILL you!!! Also make sure you get the real legit stuff; the copies sting and don’t work at all; those copies are, I think, the source of most of the negative reviews this product gets.

  31. I used this product back in the 90’s, just for kicks, and let me tell you, once I saw the affect that it had on my woman, Oh, the party was on! Apply it about 30 minutes before insertion, so that it can work into your system. My only suggestion to any user is to tell your woman to “buckle up”, cause you are going to rock her world!!! The only side affect is that you may find that women will fall madly in love with you because of your stamina, which isn’t bad!

  32. I have used it for a year or so… And it’s a great product.. I aply it on the back if the head and bottom of it and in bout hour I wash it off and we ready to go!!!! It last at least an hour!!! Now I can enjoy doing it with my girl any position and not worring about anything!!! When I decided to use it the first time she got so shocked that I hold it for so long!!!! She went crazy!!! So i know and she knows it really works!!! Plus no side effects.

    • It may just be then that it doesn’t work for you. You could try adding a little more, or waiting a little longer. But unfortunately you may have to try something else.

    • If the bottle label is not red and the bottle cap is not brown with a wooden dip stick you have the fake stuff. The bottle also has a raised Chinese symbol on the back. There is a lot of fake stuff out there. Was not paying attention when i bought it and I got caught out there myself. Look for an expiration date on the side of the box. The real stuff works!!!

    How do u guys apply it i just started using it for a few days ago, but doesn’t seems to work, i apply just a drop at the base of the head, i have to apply it in some other way?

      When you say the base, do you mean the very tip/end or the area around the frenulum (the ‘string’ part underneath the head)? It could be that you are not applying it to the correct area or a wide enough area, or maybe you aren’t waiting long enough to see if it works. Either that or maybe it unfortunately just doesn’t work for you!

  35. I tried China brush and i think this is just amazing. Before I lasted 5-10min and when i apply a thin layer on the head i can last 1h. I apply it only under the head if i want to last 30 min. I had painfull experience at start when i applied too much. Dipping one side of a Q-tip if enough. Important to wash it about 1h30 after application if you don’t wear condoms. This thing saved my relationship highly recommend it.

      1. Why did you wait 1h30 before washing it off? It doesn’t take that long to start working, so you can wash it off much sooner.
      2. 5-10 minutes is actually quite a reasonable time to last for. Did you try any other techniques before China Brush, and did you find they worked just as well?

        You can probably wash it sooner than this employe of the sex shop told me 45min to 1h30 is best for absorption. I wash it because of the taste during oral sex and to be sure my partner doesn’t feel any effects of the product(no condoms).

        I tried Trojan numbing condoms and had bad experience using it like lost of erection and completely numbing my partner mouth during oral sex. I dont always use China brush but when we have ‘special nights’ or i feel like trying new stuff its a good tool. I even feel like even with no China brush i last longer than before using it. It is probably psychological or maybe my body got ‘used to’ have longer intercourse i dont know.

          No problem. I think maybe he was giving you that much time just to be sure. It’s definitely always a good idea to give these products a wash before you use them.

          Yeah, those lidocaine and benzocaine condoms can be tricky to use without causing problems like that. I’ve had a similar problem with them before. Maybe you put it on inside out if it numbed her mouth so badly!

          You might also be right about the psychological effect. I’ve heard other guys say that once they get into the swing of having longer sex with a desensitizing spray, they can last longer without as well. Great to hear!

        • Nah if you wait 1 and a half hours that’s best to wash it off, if you going to keep it on then it doesn’t matter. However if you going to wash it off a 1hr and a half is perfect to still give you the result without the taste to females

  36. I have not used china brush yet

    The first thing I bought for Premature ejaculation, and which I am still using is called : Pau Yuen Tong

    I bought it off ebay

    It comes in the form of a balm that you apply to the head of your organ 15-20 mins before intimacy

    You have to use a very small amount. I once used a lot and I lasted 1.5 hours

    you may think thats good, but there is reduced sensation and you are just waiting for the climax.

        Yes, it’s true that some say this. However, I haven’t been able to confirm it personally. What I’ve heard is that a bluish label means real and yellow/brownish is fake.
        The problem is though, the majority sold tend to have the brownish label, and there is no authority or body which has tested them and said anything definitively. That and the fact that manufacturers may change the label of their particular version as they see fit. So it’s a tricky question to answer!
